Strategies On How To Maintain A Good Garden
If you’re looking to infuse your home with some lovely natural beauty, there’s no better way than to start your own home garden! Gardening is also a great way to relieve stress and make your life happier. Read on for some tips on how to get the most out of your home garden!
Gardening can be a very rewarding practice. Not only can you improve the look of the outside of your home, but you can be proud of it as well. There are plenty of tools and things to use in gardening and this can be a very rewarding activity. You can improve not only your home but your neighborhood and quite possibly start saving on groceries by growing your own food!
Not only is gardening a great way to grow your own food, but you can also grow your own drink. You can grow apple mint to make a delicious tea or rhubarb stalk to make a tart alternative to lemonade. You should also can or freeze your berries and fruits to make them into soda, hard cider, or wines.
Weed the garden often and early. Plan on a weeding schedule for the garden at least three times. The first should be five to seven days after sowing, and again seven to ten days after that. The third time should be three to four weeks after planting, by this time the plants should be rooted well enough to add mulching and sufficient leaves to shade the surface.
If you have a garden pond, grow water lilies. Many people are under the impression that water lilies are very hard to grow, but it’s the exact opposite! The roots of the plant embed themselves in the mud at the bottom of a pond. From these roots grows a thick root stock, which is topped with the leaves and flowers that you see on the surface of the pond. You can also plant the water lily in a special pond basket. Simply line the basket with hessian to prevent the soil from falling through, and fill with ordinary garden soil. Rest the plant on top of the soil, and place in your pond. The only requirement for beautiful flowers is a sunny position.
Get your soil professionally tested. The small upfront cost of soil testing will pay for itself many times over. By knowing exactly what type of soil you have as well as what nutrients are present will give you important information for a successful garden. Once you are aware of deficiencies, you can take steps to amend the soil and get your garden off to a good start.
If you own fish, save your water. Changing the water in a fish tank is a necessary chore when caring for these pets; however it can also prove to be useful for your garden. Dirty fish tank water is actually quite loaded with the nutrients plants crave. So when it comes time to change the water, instead of dumping that old water down the drain, use the water to fertilize your plants instead.
Gardening, as you know from the introduction, is the best way to put your house in touch with the beauty and tranquility of nature. Try these tips for making your own garden and watch as your yard becomes a natural wonderland of tranquility and beauty. Start your garden today!
